Covert
While visual effects enhance perceived value and are a first line of defence against counterfeiting, there is concern that access to competent simulations or, indeed, complete re-origination of images is possible. Even so, the hologram still offers an extremely cost effective way of defending against even the most professional of attacks. In such situations the choice of technology and the verification of the hologram at the second level (covert) stage are critical.
These covert features are embedded in the hologram and verified by trained agents in the field. (All recent attempts to compromise security holograms have failed at this second level). Covert features are achieved using a range of applications and require special tools to read them. These features range from laser replayable messages to SecureTextTM and are bespoke to suit the design, and functionality of the product and the level of sophistication of the supply chain.
